18/6/02 - Crawling along.
Errgghh...Four months since I bothered to update this goddamn site, and what a capital
shite of a time it's been. Whinging aside, I've been working on RA2 (yeah, the poxy
name is one thing I definitely HAVEN'T been working on!) fairly evenly, albeit slowly,
for the whole time. The main area I've built on is the characters and story - the
easy option considering the tile engine is a total slug to work out, which makes me
begin to think I've got programmer's block...Anyway, enough drivel, here's what's
been done:
5 of 6 playable characters worked out
90% of storyline 'mentally' scripted (I can recite much of the dialogue off the top of my head)
Basic script loading and deciphering routines complete
Initial groundmap and object drawing routines complete (yet to be COMPREHENSIVELY tested)
Text/Message/Dialogue panel animations and text-alignment routines complete
Tile cell redrawing function complete, bar the NPC redraws
It's not much, but I've had a lot on recently. Plus I spend too much time daydreaming up
new scenes and character dialogue, the part I really enjoy at the moment, but I've got to
start making serious headway in the coding soon, otherwise I definitely won't get it
finished this year. Mind you, there's not a huge amount to do before the first demo can
be put out (which will be more of a Work-In-Progress really).
Current lameass excuse for slow progress: "Too many reminders of how
futile my pathetic attempts at RPG creation are."
